Hi dear travellers,

We are going to be a small team of  7+1 . This is going to be a very explorative and  experiential road tour which starts with a breathtaking view of the city of Aizawl at night from the Skywalk atop the scenic Hangi Lunglen Tlang.  We will be witnessing the Chapchar Kut Festival of the Mizo people from the very first day it  starts.

Chapchar Kut  is a vibrant Spring Festival celebrated annually in the month of March and is Mizoram’s biggest festival. “Chapchar” refers to the period of rest in the cycle of “Jhum cultivation” and “Kut” means festival. In Jhum cultivation, which the Mizos have been practising for centuries, the forests are cleared and left to dry before they are burned up to make the ground ready for cultivation. After a brief resting period , the ground becomes ready for sowing new seeds. it is during the resting period, Chapchar Kut is celebrated.

According to the oral tradition, when the hunters returned from the forests empty handed, the village chief would gather everyone to have a community feast where everyone brought in something so that the community can celebrate together. Much of this festival was lost as Christianity gained more popularity and the animist societies were converted into Christianity. The festival was formally revived again in 1973 and it gives a glance into the culture, lifestyle the society of the Mizos through their dances, music, food, indigenous games and sports, costumes and their values. In the festival,  you get to see the famous bamboo dance the Cheraw, the circle dance Chai, Khuallam, Chheihlam, war dance Sarlamkai. You also get to watch the traditional games like Inbuan, Insuknawr, Kalchhet.

Apart from the performances, you also see flower shows ( this is the time when rhododendrons and orchids are in full bloom in Mizoram), handloom and handicraft exhibitions, photography exhibitions and many more.  and since we are in Mizoram already, how can we miss visiting all those places that are worth visiting in our time frame? So yes we will visit Vantawng waterfall in  Thenzawl. Vantawng happens to be the 13th tallest waterfall in India  and the highest uninterrupted waterfall in Mizoram. We will also visit Tuirihiau falls and what is hidden behind the Tuirihiau. That is a secret which will be unfolded when you reach there. We also visit the calm and peaceful Dilpui Lake. And while doing all of those we stay in the absolutely gorgoeus and luxurious Thenzawl Golf Course Resort, which is a 105 acre property with 33 beautiful cottages. Sunsets are very pleasing visual experiences here. We will also watch  sunset from the spectacular ridges of  Reiek. And that happens after we have visited the church Solomon’s Temple. The design of the church came to its founder, Dr. L.B. Sailo, through a vivid vision in a dream. The entire structure was funded purely through voluntary contributions from local community members and followers of the Kohhran Thianghlim.

We are going to visit many more interesting places in Mizoram while attending the Chapchar Kut. Kindly find out details from the itinerary.
